No way! You only bought a card. There was no waiting on you or cleaning up or food. I've never gotten a tip from someone buying a gift certificate, and I wouldn't tip if I bought one. You did fine.

No you are not wrong if all they did was tell a manager that you needed a card. But........ if the bartender had to take a moment to do this, leave the bar to find the manger, offer you a drink or even a glass of water while you wait or take a moment to run your credit card or make change for you....... leave one dollar out of courtesy.

no. You should only tip if he actually does a serviceforyou, like makes you a drink. besides, He's gonna get tipped by the person who's using the card

Ringing up a gift card does not entail any significant service, however when it is used, the person should tip then.
