Have you tried Sears.com, they sometimes keep older parts in stock. If not, I don't know what to tell you. You're lucky that you've had your mower last that long.

You might want to call Craftsman because I've always heard they replace any of their products for free for a lifetime. You can take anything Craftsman back and they usually replace it for free. Or if Lawn Mowers are exempt, maybe they can tell you where to get the part. See if they have a website.

If Sears can't help, look for other lawn mower shop in the phone book. Sears's machine can be fix any ware, and what you need its easy to fine. Good Luck

Are you talking about the blade engagement cable? 10 years old it should be made by ayp (american yard products) and these parts can be found anywhere... online, sears or a small engine shop... sears likes to charge more.....
As for the free replacement deal.... that only goes for they're tools.
