This may be what you have, like I do. You probably should tell your doctor, too.

Mittelschmerz is the pelvic and lower abdominal pain that some women experience during ovulation. (Ovulation generally occurs about midway between menstrual cycles hence the term mittelschmerz, which comes from the German words for "middle" and "pain."

The pain of mittelschmerz can range from a mild twinge to severe discomfort and usually lasts from minutes to hours. It is generally felt on one side of the abdomen and may vary each month, depending on which ovary is releasing the egg during that cycle. In some cases, a small amount of vaginal bleeding or discharge may occur. Some women experience nausea, especially if the pain is severe.

can you tell us a little more about you and your pain? What's your age, have you had pain like this before, how severe is it?

It could just be normal pain from ovulation, but you could have an ovarian cyst or PCOS. If the pain is really severe, obviously your best bet is to visit your doctor.

It could be ovulation pains if you get it about once a month. If its constant though could be your appendix. If its ovulation pains you might find you have had a stretchy discharge a bit like raw egg white over the past couple of days. A quick check up at the Dr's will solve it.

Your stomach is located in the upper left quadrant of your abdomen and is partially covered by the ribs. If this is where the pain is and where it stays, it's not your appendix. Now if the pain is actually in the lower right quadrant of your abdomen, it could be appendicitis. Your best bet is to get to an ER or Urgent Care walk-in clinic be examined right away. If it's not appendicitis, it could be something equally serious.

I get this pain on and off as well but on the other side. If you find out what it is let me know - should go to the doctor but don't want to get sent for a scan.
