The gophers are there to eat the grubs and other insect nasties that are killing your lawn.
Lose the bugs and the gophers will leave.

fill those gopher holes with water with a hose and just wait till they come out and then fill the hole with dirt!

Plug up all the holes and put dynamite in one hole that you left uncovered. Cover up that hole and light the dynamite. Don't forget to run. Gopher problem all solved and so is your lawn mowing problem. The bill is in the mail. :O)

Besides using water to drowned them out, I recently learned that a road flare will do the best job. Light the road flare and throw it in the hole. Cover the hole with dirt. The road flare will continue to burn. The flare will rob the hole of oxygen and will also smoke em out.
