*Why is a man's zipper referred to as a "fly"? *

Fly, noun: a strip of material sewn along one edge of a garment opening for concealing buttons, zippers, or other fasteners.

If your zipper is not zipped up, your fly
( strip of material sewn along one edge )
is open.

Have a pleasant day.

I have a theory for this. When jeans were first invented, basically only men wore them. One man noticed anothers pants unzipped and told him if he didnt zip his pants something was going to 'fly' out. So it caught on and was then on refered to as a fly.

It's one of those kinds of things we may never know! I've heard it refered to as a "barn door", a "mail box", etc.
