For family games, it's nintendo. You can get the Gamecube cheap for now, but with their new system coming out next month, there won't be many newer games coming out for it. Also, the new system, the Nintendo Wii, will be able to play Gamecube games. Also, it can download older games from the NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and Turbo-grafix. The older nostalgia games may appeal to you if you grew up with any of those systems. The Wii will be $250 when it comes out on 11/19/06.

I have both consoles and Nintendo Gamecube is much more friendly than Ps2. Some family titles that I've played with my sister when we were younger are: Mario Sunshine with lots of colors and nice mario-style story that children love and Mario Party 4 which is like a board game with Mario, Yoshi and the rest of the group as players... PS2 is a much more violent console with titles that involve themes that aren't suitable for children. In case you decide to buy a ps2 try to avoid titles such as the Resident Evil series, the Grand Theft Auto series and generally 12+ rated by PEGI and of course 16+ which are EXTREMELY violent! Both Gamecube and PlayStation 2 can hook up to the TV easily and quickly!

all systems can be hooked up to tv's. even older models with out a/v cables. there are accessories you can buy that will let you play on those type of tv's. as far as what type of system, well, i would personally go with the gamecube. especially since you have a younger child, nintendo has always been more kid friendly and the game cube is more of the "party" system, since it has plugs for up to 4 remotes on the system itself. mario party, super smash bros., mario cart are just a few games that would probably be awesome. if you wanted you could even wait for the new nintendo wii to come out in november. it's going to cost about $250 but will play all game cube games and you can even download older nintendo/super nintendo/ and N64 games.

Wait until November 19th when the Nintendo Wii comes out.
It'll be $250.
But if you do get a GameCube, keep in mind there will be more games appropriate for hin/her and Nintendo makes family friendly games more than Sony PS's and X-box systems.

Game Cube is cheaper (around $90.00) and more "family friendly". I'd go with it. I have one, but I rarely play it. I bought it for the Zelda games. Nintendo has a new system coming out. I'll wait till it comes down on price before I pick it up.

I have to say Nintendo, in general a game that is ONLY for Nintendo seems more "family appropriate" than Sony games.

Wait and get the WII. Nentendo is the only system that is really targeted towards children. The games on the PS systems are to graphic and violent for children. Just wait till X-Mass and get the WII.

I would say a gamecube, (I personnely have one....note:Im ten) and it's really fun, I think it's a wonderful expirience for both the adult and your child on the other hand ps2(or whatever it is) has lots of violence and sexual theme's so you might not want your kids to be seing that kind of stuff.

The gamecube has many more fun little mario games but the PS2 has very good sports and RPG's. If you want the kid to have more fun get the gamecube. If you want to have more fun then get the PS2.
