HgB is hemoglobin. Normal child levels are between 9.8 and 14.5 g/dl. My 4 yr olds oncologist gives transfusions if it drops under 8.

Hgb is the abbreviation for hemoglobin, the oxygen carrying capacity of your blood. People who have chronic lung disease tend to have high hemoglobins to compensate for their diminished lung function. When I was a young nurse, people with hemoglobins that were too high, like around 19 used to have phlebotomies, that is, they would have a unit of blood drawn off. I don't know if that is still done, I haven't seen it done in many years. Good question. For the normal lab values for hemoglobin, I would google it. I can't remember exactly off hand. The levels are different for men and women.

HIGH hemoglobin levels are usually found in men or women who have stopped menstruating (or not started yet), but who take a vitamin with extra iron in it. Most people who eat meat regularly and are not menstruating, don't need that much iron in their diets and it can be dangerous.
The link below gave some good info on diseases that can cause excess hemoglobin, or "Iron overload" (such as sickle cell anemia). You should really consult your doctor to see WHY you have high hemoglobin levels. Changing your diet and supplements might be enough, but you should be sure it's not more serious.
