depending on location (how close to center, how far from subway station) from $300 to $1000 (and maybe even more) a month. Suburbs can be cheaper

You will need help from a Russian! There are western style developments (ruddy expensive) and "normal" Russian apartment blocks. We have one of the older white block type flats. It has shot up in value. Prices for the western type apartments, with gates and all the "I am petrified of someone saying "Boo" to me" trappings are astronomic. Older style are fine. It's all about getting a place (like in any other city) in the right area. It's all about location. (That's what you need a Russian for) Now, do not be put off by what a load a daft people say who think the place is still the old USSR. It isn't. It is a lively, interesting (if expensive in some parts) vibrant city. It has some excellent hospitals and schools at a fraction of the cost in the west. But you do need some help (once again - that's what you need a good Russian friend for!)

Depends if you want running hot water or not. Think NYC, it can run from cheap to expensive. You on a visa? That will limit you on where you can stay. Best to ask you employeer or sponsor on the best place to live.
