Windows, no question. Windows isn't necessarily any less secure than the other ones, in fact, it's likely slightly more secure, though it is true that the other systems are better written. However, Microsoft, with a far larger user base, has a far greater number of people writing viruses for it, so it has more experience in securing its operating system. Though, Linux is not for office or desktop home PCs, anyone who tells you otherwise is a loser who needs to use linux to make friends, Linux is a server and database operating system, it's good for being a server responsible for managing networks and for hosting a number of things, because that's what it's designed for, but it is not supposed to be for a personal use machine. Macintosh is a good machine, but it's made for graphic artists, etc.. Macintosh with a smaller user database has far less software written for it. Windows runs the larger part of all programs, and is perfect for those who aren't particularly good with computers, it's far cheaper as well.

1. Listen to what I am saying instead of asking prescripted questions. Did it occur to you that not every person calling is a total moron and they did check the things that you're scripted to ask before they ever even called. When explaining what I've already checked, it's pretty irritating to hear a response of "Did you check (whatever I just got done saying I checked)" 2. I agree. 3. However, it is also less than helpful to call and say "I'm getting an error" so at least have it written down so you CAN give the exact error when/if asked. 4. Heaven forbid anyone would try to be personable or polite. 5. "Screwed up" is not helpful. Where the specific problem lies would be. 6. I agree. 7. General rule of thumb is call whoever made it - hardware OR software wise. I do have to disagree when you say you don't use the internet to fax - there are several internet and email based fax programs. 8. Well, in fact, there are plenty of times the connection issues are not "just me". 9. Make sure that the feedback areas are easy to navigate so nobody HAS to call to give that type of suggestion. 10. Actually, you get paid to help people set things up so quit complaining. If they need help, that is what you're supposed to be there for. 11. I agree 12. I agree 13. Yes 14. Do not assume that I don't know computers, possibly better than you, and talk to me as such 13. Being rude and not listening makes me want to come down to the call center you're sitting in thinking you're smarter than me to knock you off your chair.

Can you afford the time to wait a little longer? If yes, Microsoft will be announcing a new Operating System called Vista. At which point, Microsoft XP will not be the most preferred op.system.
I am right now running a trial version of Vista that MS makes available to those who want to test. I am a 'beta tester'. I like what I see in this new op.sys. It has so many new features and makes it so user friendly. My advise to you is to wait till February.
Run with what you have right now. There is a Microsoft technet forum (for some of the techies like myself) taking place in December to announce Vista. All this means, it's release on time, as promised, is definite.

It's not that microsoft's operating systems are necessarily weak on security. It's that most people use microsoft and more hackers write viruses for it.
Sure, Macs have less virus problems for the same reason. Fewer hackers write for it. You also see fewer programs for macs.
Linus and even OS/2 are good databases but if it doesn't run the programs you want, whats the point? (ATMS all used to run os/2 because it was mostly crash - proof.)
Microsoft is acceptable, and runs most everything you'll want to run. I'd go with that.

This is simple.... you wont understand MACs or Linux...
Get a windows XP machine from Dell and its cheap, read reviews and you will be fine. Unless you know and want software teething issues with lunix and macs then stick with the simple, boring windows
