You're looking at this the wrong way. Your job is what you do, not who YOU are, so it's not degrading to have a job in any field. Many people throughout this country would rather collect welfare than work, so you should be proud to be employed. I do agree that supporting a family on 12.54/hr is tough, I've been there. Gasoline, utilities, baby expenses go higher while your pay stays the same. It's taxing on everyone involved. It's tough to find a new job where the starting wages would equate your current wages without higher learning or training. First off, you should look into advancements at McDonald's YOURSELF. Perhaps you already done this. I'm sure McDonald's has an employee website or phone number to speak to superiors about advancements/opportunites. Is there a regional manager or V.P. you could speak to about this? You should also check out your local job center (not an employment agency) to see what types of opportunities are in your area and what you would need to do to advance your career and pay. Talk to your friends who have jobs that interest you and see if there are any opportunities at their places of employment. You can also look into some state / federal programs that will help you with your utility bills, food, etc. (the programs are based on your income) until you find better employment. Hopefully McDonald's will see that you're a dedicated employee and come through with their promises. My point is that you shouldn't feel degraded or embarrassed that you still work at McDonald's at 35. You are providing for your family, which is what a MAN does and not everyone can say that. So keep following other avenues to better you and your family's situation and until then, enjoy your family and friends. That's what's really important. Best of Luck !

I personally think that a fast food job is for teens or people who are working their way through school. A 35 year old shouldnt be working there exspecially if they have a wife and kid. If you have a high school diploma go out and futher that education. You can do so much better than McDonalds! And dont say that you cant get a job cause there are plenty of opportunities out there...good luck with it though, cause youll need it!

I understand you have a really hard time, but keep in mind that this job is the only revenue of your family.... Surtantly you don't have to many options, but let me tell you something - this reprezent a very important test for you and your family.
You MUST stick together!
For the biggining try to get a second job ( wash dishes, cut the grass - eny penny you'll earn will be very important).
So, don't search for a job which demands all kinds of intelectual skills, but something much "modest". And, as soon as posible, try also to make some courses in order for you to improve as much as posible your rezume.
Please remember that there are a lots of poeple which faces financial problems. Take care of your wife and child and fight for them!

Try working at JoAnn Fabrics, or another place that will give you a little more money. Get a collage degree and ask your wife to become a medical transcriptionist. That's a job where she may be able to stay home while still earning money. Get a good babysitter for the baby and go from there.

I would look for another job. You have some really good items to put on your resume. Any interviewer will look at your resume and see that you are a dedicated employee of 19 years, plus you have supervisor skills. What can it hurt to put your application and resumes out there? NOTHING!!! You will find a better job, but don't quit your current job until you do. Good Luck

I can tell you first hand that you should be able to get a better paying job at another chain type of restaurant. I used to work at McDonalds and then went to work as a manager at KFC and make much, much better money!

consider going to school at night, like ITT tech or something. that way you'd have a college degree and a better chance to get a better job. you're being passed over at McDonalds because they see you as permanent, and since you've stuck around so long, they don't feel any pressure to advance you. make them see that you don't HAVE to be there, and they'll make a move to promote you. Good Luck!
