1. A Wireless router should be OK. Make sure you position it in a central location in your house and not next to a wall! Your router will need to support 802.11g (the current standard!) but most do anyway, just check!
2. 108mbps (mb/s or Megabits [different to megabytes - megabytes are storage; megabits are speed!;]) is good but I use 54mbps and I've got no problem!
3. http://www.ntlshop.ntlworld.com/webstore/CNETrelated/ExtendedInformation.aspx?ExtendedCode=S1554776&ExtendedProdCode=0862408&CatCode=SELF520302
Should be OK - and it's backed by NTL should anything go wrong! (touch wood!!!!)
4. You'll need to enable file and peripheral sharing in Windows before you can do that! NetworkMagic ( www.networkmagic.com ) will automatically sort all that out!
DONT GO TO PC WORLD FOR ANYTHING - THEY'RE RIDICULOUSLY PRICED FOR WHAT IT IS (IT'S JUNK AND IT'S CRAP WHEN YOU DO GET IT!)

Just to cover off a point from one answer....
Some ISP's - notably AOL do not support any wireless router.
Check with NTL what they support for the cable modem you have. If it is USB, it will NOT work.
You need a router that supports CABLE and not one that supports ADSL.
If you are only connecting 1 machine then 54mbps is fine. I am in a house full of gamers and we have 4 PC's on the same wireless access point running 54G and it's fine.
I'm not sure on your question about the mouse and printer. Some printers can be connected to specific Routers that have USB ports for that purpose. This is not a standard feature and where available is not supported by all printers.
In addition some routers with USB ports support externa storage.
Apart from the above I know of no other USB devices that work when connected to a USB port on a router.
Your wireless mouse has it's own connection to the PC. Different frequency and different technology.

To have wireless mobility in your home you must have a wireless access point (AP) or router connected to your Cable modem (Gateway). Any wireless product will suffice. A throughput of 54 is more than suffucuent for most users. I personally use Linksys. Mianly becuase I have done so for quite a long while, but DLink and others are suitable products and all will work with your current cable modem. To share your prinetrs over the network you would need a "print server" that connects to a wireless router, such as an HP JetDirect. Of course, the mouse and keyboard must remain with the laptop. Setting up the wireless network is relatively easy and most products come with easy to use instructions.

Pretty much any wireless-G router will work with your laptop and the cable modem with the right configuration. You will still need to plug the USB hub into your laptop, however, because you can't run your mouse through the router. For the printer you would have to have a wireless print server.

1. Yes: most / all wireless routers now will be fine with your NTL. You will need a wireless card in your laptop unless it is already wireless.
2. Either will be fine... just a price and speed issue which you wont even notice. Go for the 54.
3. Yes pretty much any will.
4. Its unlikely you will be able to connect your usb hub to the router.
Wireless mouse: Plug in your laptop = no problems.
Printer: Get a wireless print server. You can get them cheap. But if you have a DESKTOP machine then plug it into that and share it.
Any problems i see you are in the UK... www.techni-phobia.co.uk... its my own company.. the number is mine. I dont mind helping out.

Yes, any wireless router should work fine with any cable internet connection. I would go with a Wireless G router. You cannot plug the USB Hub directly into the router, but you can share your printer that is connected to the other computer and then just set it up on the laptop to print to that printer.

Yes you can connect a normal router, you connect the router to the cable that comes out of the modem, if you want to print though, you might need a Modem with printer port , that exists , I recommend Linksys , they are one of the easiest systems to set up
