I am worried about the tundra/ snow melting if we drill and THIS IS BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.

You can't. It is already happening. My husband worked for a company and had the option to go there on a drilling rig.
Now, as for the protected areas? Write to your state rep and all the congressmen ect. You'll need a lot of voices and petitions. but for now I think it's safe....you can't just go and start drilling in protected areas.

Our lives are dependent on snow melting. It is a major source of fresh water for us.

why dont you get real! that place in alaska is a gravel covered patch of land and drilling on it would equal two postage stamps on a football field.
