You could compare crime rates in areas that have both. You can see how a new law in an area impacts crime rates as well. There are a lot of statistics available.

Should public schools teach creationism or evolution, or both?
Should reproductive rights be a matter of government regulation or personal choice? (I am pro-life but it is a good topic to try.)
Should the pledge of allegiance remove "one nation under God" or should it be left alone?
Should Federal monies be used for private education (i.e. school vouchers, were parents think their tax dollars should be used in sending their child to private school)?
