I'm taking a one off prescription of four 250mg capsules all in one go. Anyone know when I'm "back to normal" again, when I can consider myself healthy, and when I can start drinking alcohol?

Thanks!

As far as I'm aware, alcohol is not contraindicated with azithromycin (zithromax). I worked for years in an area where we routinely prescribed one-off doses of azithromycin, and we never had to advise people not to drink on them.

If you've taken the dose, don't worry, provided you drink in moderation, and ensure you also have a reasonable water intake so you don't become dehydrated, you should be fine, although a day or two without alcohol won't do you any harm!

As for how long before you're "back to normal"...it can take a few days for symptoms to subside. If it's an infectious organism that you're being treated for, you should avoid contact with other people who may also have the infection, until they've also been treated, to ensure you don't keep passing the infection between each other. Within 2 weeks, you should be fine.

Valtrex is a popular antiviral medicine that effectively slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. The active ingredient in Valtrex is valaciclovir. The antiviral medicine is found helpful for treating genital herpes, shingles and cold sores. Though Valtrex does not cure herpes, it is found immensely useful in reducing the symptoms of the infection.
It doesn't work over night, it takes about 4-7 days before you start to notice a difference. Break outs can last any where from 1-3 weeks with medication, try to be patient. You an do other things like take warm epsom salts baths to help sooth the symptoms. If you don't notice a difference in the beak out with in a week or two then go back to your doctor, the medication may not be working for you.

You take zithromax for 5 days, but it stays in your system about 10. My doctor told me to wait the 10 days.

You should wait at least 10 days from the first day you took it. It stays at work in your body for 10 days fighting the infection, if you drink prior to that, then you will lessen the effect of the antibiotics, and give the infection a chance to regain strenth.

Yeah definitely do not drink on them...i guarantee you that you will vomit everywhere...lol...personal experience...I would wait about 4-5 days and I think you should be fine. I just got off antibiotics that said I could drink either (Erythomycin or something) and I drank 2 days after, and I was taking them for 10 days and I was fine. I didn't get sick or anything.

Now just one minute, please.! Could you possibly be addicted to alcohol, since you cannot wait, to get "back to normal".! It is not normal to drink Alcohol.!!!The Dr. has given you one of the best, long lasting and least expensive antibiotics and you do not have patience to wait out the treatment of the condition, which you do not even bother mention, that you have! Will you start making some sense and go to an AA meeting and get yourself some help before it is too late. You are welcome

If you are taking the single dose then i suggest you wait about 24 hours. I have looked in the British National Formulary (the book doctors have to look up drugs) It does not actually state in the British National Formulary how long you should wait, this is just my suggestion.

Now you tell me. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to drink alcohol while on Zithromax last week. I had one glass of wine and I spent the rest of the night punishing the toilet for my sin. NEVER AGAIN! That was stupid, stupid, stupid...
