Her master card has nothing to do with your joint account. And why couldn't you get a debit card? If you are under a certain age they might not let you. Why are you sharing an account?

If she has a Master Card that functions as a debit card, you should be able to obtain one for yourself as well. You essentially have a joint checking account with your mother and you both should be able to have cards with the account. However, if you are a minor, you might not be issued a debit card because by all technicalities, minors are not supposed to have "credit cards." If she has a regular credit card through the same bank, it shouldn't impact you or your account at all unless she specifically has it linked to your account.

All you have to do is look at the card,if it says mastercard only then it's a credit card and if it's a mastercard with a debit logo on it then you she can use it as debit, credit, and taking money out the ATM machine. And if you have a joint account with her she should have been respectable enough to also get you a card in case of emergencies after all it's your account also.

Do both. You are better off paying off the card first. If an emergency comes along before you have savings at least you have the card to use. At the same time, you aren't continually shelling out for interest every month. It doesn't hurt to save $25-50 a month if you can swing it while paying off the credit card. It's not much, but it amounts to more than $500 in a year.

her master card could be a debit card with the master card logo; as far as you obtaining a debit card you may be able to just go online for your banks website and place your order there, otherwise you should be able to do it over the phone (without your mothers permission)

start your own chequing account before you do anything about trying to get a credit card. just transfer most of your money into that account and get yourown debit card, then wait a year. unless you are under 18, then you aren't allowed to have a credit card without your mom's permission.

the bank wont give you a debit card, you will have to ask your mom as she will be the main holder of the account.

With joint accounts you usually need the other person's approval to do anything, especially if you are a minor.
