It should be as simple as changing a lightbulb.. and let me say that I hate that this makes me both feel and sound like a totally inept female, hate it. But I can't change the headlight on my car because the wire clip won't budge. It's a 2000 ford focus wagon (unfortunately).. any insights? I've been out in the rain for the last half an hour struggling with this.

Nobody who's any good with cars in the world has gotten that way without spending many hours wrestling with a clip or bolt somewhere. The main difference between great mechanics and failures is that the great ones are too damn stubborn to quit, so eventually find the solution. They break plenty of things along the way, but that just means they get even more experience fixing what they broke.
You'll get it. And when you do, you'll feel like an idiot because you'll realize you could have done it in two minutes. That's OK. Just part of the tradition.

It's the same thing as trying to remove one of your dog's eyeballs. If you don't know exactly what you're doing, the dog's gonna make it tough for you. The fact that you're a girl has no bearing on the matter. It once took me a day and a half to remove a clutch slave cylinder from a 1971 BMW 2002. Iron cylinder. Aluminum bell housing. Sound like you need to immobilize the part to get a tool in there and pop the clip. Probably keeps moving around on ya. So invest in a pair of Vise Grips. Wrap the module with something and use just enough clamping force to hold the connector. Usually most of them things just plug in and out. No clips at all. They can get corroded because they have copper connectors. Have fun!

Generally there is a little clip holding the wire on. I was travel through Illinois and wanted to have one changed, I had read in my owners manual how to do it, but I was worried about getting oil from my hands on the bulb. The man from the auto parts store came right out and changed it for me, in fact that was in the rain. There are a lot of places that are good about giving you a hand.

Are you sure the lighbulb holder doesn't turn and unlock??

Try to gently twist it in both directions.
