The computer is fairly new and it has a Nvidia Geforce 7500LE graphics card with 564mb memory. The monitor is a NEC multisync LCD 1810 but the definition looks a little blocky and crap..how can i change this so it is sharper?

Also check your display property settings for colour quality : highest(32bit)
If all else fails download latest drivers from manufacturer.

And I recommend the latter. I have a x1600 XT and love it to death, especially since I'm playing at 1600x1200 with all the performace specs maxed out. Either card will be overkill for a game like Sims 2. I'd go with a run of the mill card unless you really need the processing power.

Because it is an LCD monitor, it uses actual little lights to draw the color, unlike CRT (big monitors) that use color beams to draw. Becuase the color "dots" are fixed and cant move, they have to be interpolated to work at different resolutions. I have 2 solutions for you:

1) Set your resolution to 1280,1024 (right click on the desktop, click on properties, click the settings tab, and pull the slider until it says 1280,1024)

2) Buy a CRT monitor. In my opinion they are STILL MUCH better unless you need to save space. Here is a good quality, low cost CRT monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824103003

Change your resolution to the native resolution of that monitor (check your manual or contact NEC). You can change the recolution by going to Control Panel then Display and then the Settings tab.

The native resolution for this monitor is:
Horizontal: 1280x1024
Vertical: 1024x1280
