We all have a slight pulse in our thumb some more so than others .
So some people who have a strong pulse, may by using their thumb to take someones else's pulse they may be feeling their own pulse not the person supposed to be getting their pulse taken.

Because your thumb has a pulse. If you check somebody elses pulse using your thumb, chances are you will not get accurate pulse rate results

Use 3rd and 4th fingers to check for pulse because the thumb AND index fingers have a strong pulse of their own.

Because the pulse in your thumb is so strong that you could be fooled to think its's the other persons pulse.

Because your thumb has a pulse in it ... and therefore, if you use it to find someone elses pulse, you don't know who's you are counting... your own.... or theirs. If you use the index and middle fingers, they are big enough to feel a beat and easy to use without the others getting in the way.

Because there is a major vessel in your thumb. Putting pressure on someone's vein with your thumb means you might sense both of your pulses and get mixed up.
