Clean the avacado seed well. Stick a toothpick into each side. Place the seed in a clear low cup of water, so the roots can start to grow. It works best if the seed is not totally underwater.

The toothpicks hold the seed half-way in and half out of the water. Keep the water about halfway up the seed always. They take time to grow, so be very patient , as it can be months.

Keep it near a sunny kitchen window.
Good luck!

My Tia Cecelia usually sticks 4 toothpicks in the avocado (i.e. North, South, East & West) she scores the bottom of the pit. She then fills a glass with room temperature water a set the avacado with toothpicks on the rim of the glass, in a window. After 5 days she adds just a small drop of plant food. Keep the water( always room temperature) filled to the bottom of the avacado and by week 2 you should see roots sprouting. Wait until you have sufficient roots before you plant in soil. Tia Cecelia has beautiful plants from avacados all over her house.

I had 2 avocado pits and I put them in a pot right outside my back door with some good soil and the little trees are big already. I put them there sometime in the summer and water them weekly.

I was told you have to plant 2 pits in the same area. They grow better. If this doesn't help then I suggest you look into purchasing a small tree and planting it. good Luck.

There's the old trick of sticking toothpicks into it, and leaving it half-way submerged in a cup of water until it sprouts roots.

From there, of course, it will need to be planted in the ground.

Keep in mind, however, that avocado trees require a male and a female in order to grow fruit, and it can take up to 20 years for a tree to reach maturity.

I had to saok one submerged in water for almost 2 months before it finall germinated, once it cracked open i buried it in dirt about 2 " below the soil. it grew to a whopping 12" or so but it died because i forgot about it.

AVOCADOS NEED TO BE GERMINATED TO PRODUCE FRUIT. FOR A HEALTHY THRIVING TREE YOU NEED A MALE AND A FEMALE, LIKE WITH CANNABIS...

In all honesty, your best bet would be to buy a matured plant.
