IS " PENNY FOR THE GUY " STILL LEGAL FOR CHILDREN TO DO TO RAISE MONEY FOR FIREWORKS ON BONFIRE NIGHT? WHY DID THE TRADITION SEEM TO STOP.??

Probably still legal. Probably stopped because of the proliferation of drugs and pedophiles and whatever else on the streets. Sad, isn't it? I remember a Brit friend of mine talking fondly of the bonfires and fireworks.

where i live, bonfire night is huge and they still do penny for the guy here but its in the main shopping area and is a proper set up not just a bunch of kids...we used to do it years ago tho...i suppose generally it stopped for safety reasons thats all

Collecting for charity without a license is against the law and it has been tightened up over recent years.
It is also a dangerous occupation for children, unfortunately.
I used to do it as a child.

smaller children simply can't hang around the streets anymore i guess. its not safe. such a real shame.
