Surfing the internet involves downloading information from various servers and then displaying it in the browser. Back in the day, when bandwidth was still a problem for most people, even a relatively small web page could take a few minutes to load. Programmers realized that if a page was viewed frequently, it is unlikely that it will change more often than it is loaded. Thus, if you simply have the browser "remember" the page, the next time you go there it can simply look back to the last time it was there and show you that, avoiding having to download the page a second time. The place where the browser stores this information is called the "cache".

Even with broadband, this is still useful, as there are an increasing number of pages that are really large. But if you go to a page and it's changed, your browser is likely to show you what it has in the cache before looking at the server.

"Clearing" the cache empties out this storage space, making the browser reload all pages from scratch the next time it goes there.

All kinds of temp files are stored on your hard drive when you browse the internet. When these get backed up and you dont clean them...they slow your computers performance. They also make your computer a privacy risk. Clearing your browser's cache and your temp folder often is integral to proper maintenance.

Go to Tools-->Internet Options and click Delete Files. This will delete your Temporary Internet Files (browser cache).
