Avocado's any tips?

Any tips for starting a plant from the pit??? When i try they never do well!!

I know the avocado pit is called seed btw.

it's actually the same as a potato. you clean it off, stick toothpicks in it and suspend its bottom in clean water. It takes like a month and needs to be in the sun.
