It depends on what type of organization or cause you are trying to raise money. I help with raising money for our local school and parents club and we do many different fund raisers. We have a trivia night at a nearby hotel. The hotel allows us to use their banquet room free of charge for the cause and we sell tickets for $10.00/person $100.00/table which seats 10. We then have the parents of each class donate a basket (example... chocolate lovers, nascar, bath products, lottery, anything you can think of that people would want) we then sell 50/50 tickets, we sell tickets for chances to win the baskets and then the top baskets are auctioned off. Their is little cost to put this production on as long as the community works together. If each parent donates $5.00 to help raise money for their child's school then the baskets are usually pretty outstanding and we generally earn close to $1,700 in profits for one night. It's been very successful and a great deal of fun. It beats sending the children door to door selling nicknacks. This way we are able to afford new playground equipment and what ever else the schools may need without involving the children. We as parents make ourselves responsible and it works wonderfully! We also do can drives, Papa John's night, we are starting a program with Schnucks grocery store this year. Anyone can pick up a card at Schnucks for free. They give the store the school's name and information and then use their card everytime they shop at Schnucks. The card is used for no other reason than to earn money for the school. Our school will receive a percentage of every cent spent and recorded on the cards. It's easy and a wonderful way to earn a profit for our school. I hope this has helped you. Good luck and God bless!

A firewalking event. Make sure you get a reputable company who know what they're doing to organise it though.
I did a sponsored firewalk last year and it was one of the best experiences ever. The company who ran it did two hours training before and set up the coals properly, using the right materials etc.
I raised £100 through sponsorship (the minimum amount) and I think there were about 12 people who did the walk. (They probably raised more than me - I got third degree burns on my hand the week before the event and people thought I was a bit mad when I asked'em for money and then explained why four of my fingers were bandaged).

Sell flower bulbs from Dutch bulbs or Brecks. Also Yankee Candles has a a great fundraiser program. --If you don't want to sell anything, have a work day--wash windows, rake yards, walk dogs etc. Lots of tasks can be done. -- If you live in Farming country, pick up corn after the combining is finished. - Have a community rummage sale or Auction.--What you can do depends on size of your group, etc. -- Have a raffle for something. -- Collect autographs and raffle them. -- I am a former band director and have tons of fund raising experience!!

a raffle. get people and companies to donate stuff - your local restaurant can donate a meal, your cinema can give free tickets, local gym can give a day pass, voucher for a manicure from local salon. Or you could do the same and have an auction - depends waht its for - see if u can get a free venue get the press involved and invite local big shots like councillors and business owners - they love to show off and show they are doing their bit by flashin their cash.

cake stalls - always good - yum yum!

There are only three things that are important in fund raising...publicity, publicity and more publicity. Make your pitch as hard as you can through any branches of the media you can get to, whether it is local radio, parish magazine, free press or internet, then sit back and let others do your fund raising.
