I'm not talking about any president in particular, but about the office of the presidency...is it ok for a president to make so many important decisions on his own?...

How little you really know about our constitution and history.

Unfortunately, many people forget that the Constitution is what regulates and drives this country.

The President is extremely limited in what he can and can't do.
The president can not just go to War or a police action. He must ask permission from Congress. The president does not make the Budget, he signs the budget that Congress passes.
The president does not make the laws, he signs bills into law.

The ONLY things the president can do without Congress Permission is to make treaties with other countries and make executive orders that effect the Executive Branch of the Government. Sometimes those effect others, but none the less, that is his doings.

The most powerful people in the Government are the Senators, followed by the Representatives. Rep's have the ability to create laws and ratify with the senate, and the senate decides where money gets spent.

No, The President must work though Congress to get any legislation passed and has clearly defined powers.

If any of the Branchs have to much power, it would Judicial. What they say becomes law. If it is the Supreme Court, then there is little to no recourse.

NO!!!!! The President does not make decisions on his own,
That is why the President of the USA has a Staff and Advisors,
He will bring up ideas of his own, but they will discuss them
first before deciding on what course of action to take.

The entire federal government has too much power. The office of president in particular has essentially become despotic in this post-9/11 era.

No one has checked executive authority in recent history. Not Congress, not the Supreme Court, which is being packed with conservatives, when there is a tradition of balance.
Our government is NOT operating according to it's design. Much of it is tradition, and when that is not respected, or is mocked, the wheels come off.
Democracy cannot survive contempt of the governed, or of office holders who hold their obligations lightly.

lancalot you just plain wrong....this president has circumvented the other branches of government. He changes legislation before it is signed into law to make it unfunded or un enforcable etc. He has manipulated the copngress in many ways....This administration is the most corrupt ever.

Between the war powers the founders never intended to give him and the signing statements, I'd have to say yes. Emphatically.
