I went to a reading improvement seminar and was told that writing, and note taking is a waste of time. He gave us examples of efficient note taking by using diagrams.......then he proceeded to tell us the costs of the program. It was at school so its legit but i dont have the time slot to make it, does anyone know anything about these note taking diagrams? examples?

Note taking is only a tool designed for your learning style. What works for some may be useless for others. The note should do two things: 1. help you learn what the important points of the lecture are as it is unfolding. 2. work as a trigger for recall during study/cram time later. Bevity is best but don't cut yourself short. Develop your own short cuts. Find what works for you and stick with it.

If you're talking about "concept mapping" it works well for some people, but you have to have a very visually oriented mind. I just find it annoying, but I'm more auditory-focused.

NOTE TAKING IS SUPER EFFECTIVE......BUT ONLY IF YOU RE READ THEM....AND THE MOST EFFECTIVE NOTE TO A STUDENT IS THE ONE THAT IS WRITTEN BY HIS OWN HAND ...PLACING A HIGHLIGHTER PEN OVER A KEY WORD...WHICH MAKES FOR YOUR OWN RECALL OF YOUR WRITTEN STATEMENT OR NOTATION.....READING YOUR OWN NOTES OUT LOUD HELPS ALSO...BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS U GOTTA WANNA.....LEARN AND RETAIN THE INFO.....BEST OF LUCK TO YOUR LEARNING.
