LotR is awesome. Broken down it can be said that it's deep down a story of good versus evil, and that is at the heart of it.
The books are awesome, and Peter Jackson did as good a job as possible turning them into movies. Long, though the extended versions are separated onto two discs each, an easy time to take a break. And the casting was done magnificiently. True it's not for everyone, but it's at least worth giving it a chance.
I know it's nice to come onto a forum to get some opinions, but there are PLENTY of places on the web you can look to find out what it's all about, without all the biases that people might have on here.

properly, no longer each and every e book accessible is for each guy or woman. The Hobbit is approximately how Bilbo comprises have the only ring. a number of that tale became extra interior the action picture variations of Lord of the rings so as that persons unfamilliar with the books does no longer be perplexed. you will additionally locate that super parts of Lord of the rings have been decrease out and there are mixed thoughts approximately that. fairly the time line is that the 1st e book Fellowship of the rings occurs over the process quite a few years, 2 Towers occurs over the process like each and every months and return of the King occurs almost over the process weeks or days. Tolkein appeared to no longer have an outstanding theory of the place the story became occurring the 1st and so the story will initiate feeling fairly scattered and it does get greater useful. yet, bear in mind that we are all variable human beings and what appeals to one guy or woman won't attraction to a distinctive. LOTR additionally, isn't something like Harry Potter so be arranged.

I first read the novels series of the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings in 1965. Probably dating myself I know, but, they are as exciting today as ever. Having read and love these books on and off for years, it left me hesitant as to whether they could properly recreate the world of Middle Earth and it's enthralling characters. But, to my great surprise they were succesful. Sure, they twisted and turned the films in places away from the original novel series story. But, in the long run it was well worth it. Buy the series of books and the movies. You'll enjoy both immensly.

I thought the trilogy was good but the books were much better. The movies did well until The Return of the King. That movie left alot of detail out that was in the book. I was disappointed. I would say if you can get your hands on the books then do. After reading them then you can decide whether the movies were worth it.

The movies are so totally worth it, if only for the amazing Andy Serkis as Gollum.
It's like Harry Potter for grown up people!

If you get the Directors Cut.
Sure the movies are then very long ("Two Towers" is four hours from stem to stern) but things are explained and events make better sense

Long, but interesting. A movie about good and evil, with a lot of special effects.
