One day, the temperature at 2:00 A.M. was 43°F, and by 3:00 P.M. the temperature was 56°F. What was the hourly rate of temperature change?

Ok, the temperature rose from
43°F to 56°F from 2:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M

So the temperature rose
56 - 43 = 13°F between 2:00 A.m and 3:00 P.M

Now between 2 A.M and 3 P.M., notice the A.M. and P.M., there are 13 hours

2am (1) 3am (2) 4am (3) 5am (4) 6am (5) 7am (6) 8am (7) 9am (8) 10am (9) 11am (10) 12pm (11) 1pm (12) 2pm (13) 3pm

So if the temperature rose 13°F over 13 hours
than 13/13 = 1, or 1°F per hour

56 - 43 / (number of hours between 3 PM and 2 AM)
