Materials and quality have little to do with it, at least directly. It's a simple case of demand. People are simply willing to pay more for these products. Why? It may be because of the producers reputation for making a reliable and attractive product. However, in the case of designer fashion, it has a lot more to do with the status that these products confer. This is due to a large part on marketing. In essence, when you buy designer clothes, you are paying not only for the clothes, but for the label and the status that confers. In my mind, this is a total waste of money. However, some people put value on that, and are thus willing to pay. If people are willing to pay, the producers can charge as much as they can get away with. That's how a free market economy works. Another strange thing is that when you wear designer clothes, you are providing free advertising for the producer. If you are rich and influential, this feeds the whole vicious cycle of social status and recognition. If you are a poor slob, you bring down the value of the label. So the producers have good reason to make sure that their clothes are affordable only to the rich and famous, at least as much as they can while still making a profit. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Because of the labor that is put into the clothes. Not to hate on any stores, but a cotton V-neck at Target is $10.00. If Gucci or Versache or Dolce&Gabbana nade a V-neck, One it wouldnt be cotton, it would be silk or satin, some expensive fabric and two it's designer so of course more people will money buying a famous V-neck that $250. *shrug*
