And no, this is not a rhetorical question.

It's called marketing. The products are often made to look better than they are in order to sell more.

Camera tricks my dear...

I'm sure this was a rhetorical question, I'm not sure if you were looking for an actual answer or not but it seems that most of the food they show on TV isn't always food...and sometimes when it is food they doctor it up with soap and baby oil and such to make it shiny and perfect.

Yum!!!

I'd rather eat the one that looks like crap than the one that looks amazing but taste like Palmolive!

HOLLA! You hit it right on the nose. Girl I can't stand McDonald's! The bread is always cold! It's not tasty at all. Hell I can make a better burger at home. Now Burger King is a different story. I like Burger King! But had to answer your question because I thought that I was the only one that didn't like McDonald's. Every time I would mention how I felt to certain people they would always give McDonald's props! Please! Their props are my drop by Burger King!

McDonalds is not the only one. All fast-food does it. When I went to try a BK Stacker, I thought the burgers were wider than what I saw.

Marketing departments are there to advertise the product. Now think of the staff at the fastfood restaruant and the demands of their jobs.

Remember, you get what you paid for.

In the US, it is against the law now to use fake or enhanced food in commercials. (Some of the 'background' stuff can be fake or enhanced, but not the main items).

What they do is to buy hundreds of the burgers (or whatever) and 'mix and match' until they get one that looks just like what they want.

They actually have people who specialize in 'food fluffing' to make things look beter within the guidelines of the law- positioning things JUST RIGHT, arrange those fries in the most artistic way possible, choose the perfect color of lighting to make it look as appetising as possible.

Heck- it is the same thing they do to the people. How many candid photos of celebs look anything like their red-carpet photos or head shots?

It's all fake. Fake food is used in commercials and ads---to make it look appealing. They never look as good as the picture. It's the business. Everything is based on the dollar. It's made the cheapest way possible and in the shortest amount of time. Restaurants want orders out fast and less costly to them. That results in "crap"

It's a marketing ploy. Sometimes they don't even use real products. Example - ice cream commercials are often filmed using instant mashed-potatoes, because potatoes don't melt. The "sandwiches" they display at Arbys and whatnot? Plastic (otherwise they'd look pretty rank after a couple hours.)

And sometimes the burger does look like that... before they roll it in paper and jam it into a bag.

It's called camera magic.. Everything ALWAYS looks better on TV than in reality ( usually ). Besides when me worked at Mickey D's we didnt take the care that would be required in order to get the lettuce an sauce just 'so' on the hamburger

They want to persuade you, fool. Why would they show you the piece of crap they sell on TV? It just doesn't look like a piece of crap but also tastes disgusting.

They actually hire someone to come in and build the perfect burger to make our little minds excited. They spend much time making those burgers look their most succulent, juicy, and appealing. However, the cooks don't have the time to make it perfect and you get what they build in the little time that they have.

Have you seen the people who fix your burger? They are for the most part a bunch of young kids who do not even wear gloves or keep the place clean.
