Does anyone have one of those artificlail lawns? They look better than the real thing, no water, no mowing, etc... But how do they hold up to kids and dogs? Pros and cons? Any advice?

My neighbor has 5 dogs, many grandkids and spent $10,000 on an artificial lawn in his backyard. He loves it, but he has to vacuum up the little black beads once a week. It does feel like real grass, it looks like real grass, but it doesn't require as much maintenance (water, fertilizer, trimming & mowing) as real grass. His only complaint is that he really didn't plan out where he wanted gardens and because he had to cap off his irrigation system under it, he had to have the company back several times to cut holes in it for the gardens and re-activate the sprinklers.

His grandkids are pretty hard on it, they play baseball, kickball, football and rough house on it all the time. It is no worse for the wear. And, the dogs cannot dig through it, he merely hoses off their waste and the rabbits don't eat it.

I'm just not sure he will save what he spent in water, maintenance and chemicals over the warranty period.

There is "cheap" artificial turf and "good". No matter which you get it's going to cost a bundle. The difference is the cheap will look artificial and the good can usually pass for real. It is sturdy enough for 300# football players so family use will hardly wear it at all. It all depends on how much money you're willing to part with.
