It can cause blindness if not treated. The doctor should give an antibiotic that will get rid of it, like Zithromax.

Women who have chlamydia during pregnancy tend to have higher rates of infection of the amniotic sac and fluid, preterm birth, and preterm premature rupture of the membranes (PPROM), although prompt treatment may reduce the risk of these problems.
if you have a chlamydia infection when you go into labor, there's a chance that you'll pass the bacteria to your baby. In fact, up to half of babies born vaginally to mothers with untreated chlamydia (and even some babies born by c-section) will contract the infection. One-quarter to one-half of these babies will develop an eye infection (conjunctivitis) a few days to a few weeks after birth, and 5 to 20 percent develop pneumonia a few weeks to several months after birth. Although these infections can be very serious, babies who are treated promptly with antibiotics generally do well. Of course, it's best to get treated during pregnancy and prevent your baby from becoming infected in the first place.

Go on the center for disease control website for more information on the effect during pregnancy. It should deffinatly be treated and sometime they require IV antibiotics during labor and delivery to protect the baby. Don't get to scared all Dr.'s have seen this before and it not worth worring yourself sick over. Good Luck and congrats

The earlier you get it treated and the sooner it's cleared up the better chances you have for giving birth to a healthy baby. You need to let your doctor know ASAP if he doesn't already. Good luck to you, my friend had the same thing and her daughter will be four in Dec. and is perfectly fine you just need to get it taken care of.

my wife and i both had chlamydia when my wife was preg. and the ob/gyn also gave her and me antibiotics for the prob.
the doc said the disease is obtained from having sex with a person who has the disease , but , my wife and myself were both virgins at marriage so this is unique i guess but it is wise to get it remidied quickly so that the baby is not affected

One of my closest friends went through that, her doctor caught it right away, treated it and her baby was perfectly fine. I would say as long as you are seeing your ob/gyn like you are suppost to and they are doing all the tests they should be doing, they should catch it and treat it so it doesnt pose a risk at delivery. GOODLUCK!

Yeah. Generally its fine. You avoid passing it to the baby at birth with the doctors help. Generally its not a problem at all.
Ask your doctor.
