It's recommended to have your teeth checked at least once during pregnancy. If you have pregnancy-related gingivitis, use a soft toothbrush with a gentle toothpaste like Sensodyne, floss at least twice a day, and use Listerine mouthwash.

Yes it is common, you should see a dentist regularly and especially during pregnancy. New research showing that dental problems such as gingivitis and untreated cavities etc. can cause preterm labor. Call and make an appointment to see your dentist.

It IS common in pregnancy and needs to be kept in check during pregnancy. I've not been able to determine why, but flossing is the best thing you can do to combat it. It (and tarter also) can produce bacteria that can get into your bloodstream and cross the placenta putting your baby in harms way. This is why you need to make a hearty attempt to keep it in check.

I've heard it can be very painful. Have you seen your dentist regarding this? I'm sure they can help you figure out something that will help soothe your pain and help to fight the gingivitis.

Best of luck!
