In a real pinch you can use earmuffs that match her hair colour and wrap fake dollar stor curls around them. Look for an angel outfit at Wal-Mart, that might be you best bet.
But kudos to your kid for picking such a cool costume. Before Princess Leia, women weren't seen as strong or capable very often.
Without Princess Leia, we wouldn't have Lara Croft, Alias, Xena, or Buffy.
Man, she was a sureshot!

Dressing up the boy as a princess will not make him gay, or a serial killer, or depressed as he gets older. He may be embarrassed by it but who doesn't have any embarrassment from their childhood? If this was the other way around and a girl wanted to dress up in as a prince nobody would say anything. Is dressing up as a princess his idea or yours? It sounds like it is yours. My advice would just ask him what he wants or take him down the costume isle and let him pick a "boy" costume.

For buns on both sides, you can buy that fake hair and roll it into a bun yourself. They sell the hair clips at places like WalMart or any drug store. Also, you may want to try WalMart for the costume. I'm sure they sell something that looks like her robe.
Good luck!

Go to the pet isle in the store. They always have little donut things for them to chew. Go get some cheap hair pieces, Dollar store ect and hot glue the hair to the donut.Get a headband that matches her hair as closely as possibel and rig something to connect the headband to the donut hair.Hope this helps!

I like the headband idea for the hair... now for the dress, what about a white pillowcase? Cut holes for head and arms, and put some trim and a belt. She can wear a white coat or shirt under it for the arms.

just but a yard of linen and use that as her princess gown. accessorize with a gold belt. make her wear a white tank top and shorts underneath. for the sidebuns, use thick yarn wrapped/glued around crumpled paper (shaped into shallow cones); glue two opposite pieces onto a black hairband that fits snuggly on your daughter. apply light cosmic make-up. good luck.

Just buy a couple of Chelsea buns and stick them either side of her head - if she doesn't get a great haul trik or treating at least she'll have a couple of nice cakes to eat afterwards!

I bought the whole costume on buycostumes.com for my daughter. For $30, I got the bun wig and white gown...so much easier!

Go to the dollar store and get one of those long wigs, and make the buns yourself
