Can you give me an example of a civilization that has been lost and found again?

All I can think of is ancient Greece, whose teaching were preserved by the Moslems and the Jesuits. Can you give me other eaxamples?

Read "Guns, Germs, & Steel," by Jared Diamond. That's a very complicated question, but the book is a great read and answers it thoroughly.
