First, try clicking on "check service status", it may be that it is down for the moment in your area. If that seems ok, try logging in through the window it redirects you to when you check the status. If that doesn't work then I can only guess that 1) the password is wrong (it is case sensitive, check you aren't clicking on caps) or 2) the file has become corrupt, in which case you need to uninstall and reinstall it.

Sometime MSN is down for no reason. Restart your computer or wait half an hour and see what happens.

Check to see if firewall is blocking the messenger from connecting.
The service might be down in your area.
could be a bunch of different things.
