i have a 1600cc rover 200 on a S plate with a nacked engine. i have a chance 1400cc engine out of a L plate rover 200. Will it just Swap straight in with no modiforcation, or will i have to change the engine mounts and ECU or other modiforcations.

should be exactly the same, was exactly the same engine, although the gearbox ratio won't be right for it and it will be significantly underpowered. If you can change them both.

You'll probably have to change the ECU, but everything else should be the same.

Both are versions of the Rover K-series engine.
However, the internal construction of the block is different, meaning the 1.1 and 1.4 are more durable than the 1.6 and 1.8.
