This is a total waste of 5 points, but since I've joined, I've found it a lot easier to look up the stuff I want to know in the search box than wait for people to answer my questions... why waste your time? Especially stuff that is easily found on the internet...

Mostly I look for opinion rather than factual answers. That's why I ask here. But you're right, why bother to ask a simple fact-based question when the Internet offers answers so much faster

. " I didnt think you had to be a smarty pants genius to be on here " You dont but if I cannot understand the question properly how can I give a descent answer ?. All these text speak abbreviations change the context or just just turn the question into a nonsense, EG ... es wit ma [...] .. es - means what ? is it a name ? ... wit - does this mean that es has some level of ingenuity or intelligence ? ... ma - short for mother ? or what ... Can you see my point it makes no sense thats why I think at least some effort should go into the asking ... .

because for some people of all ages. they don't know how to navigate through the internet (surf the web). for some it's a way to meet new people & help them out. to some it's a game to get more points ( an ego thing ). also. it's easier because everyone's point of view is different (opinion). and it's fun to learn how other people think?

Just for fun and to see what answers others will give. I've asked questions that I have looked up and still got answers different from the book. Sometimes experience is far more informative than the book answer.

My guess would be some people just aren't sure where to look. Also some people really need advice. I see nothing wrong with people asking other people for advice.

Oh yes, I often just answer "google it".

And, am I the only one that thinks kids have gone too far with all their homework questions?

laziness of course..
could there be any other reason than that..the time one uses to type in a question, could have been just as easy used to put it in some search-engine.
