I was in south america a few years back and saw some locals spit roasting the little fellas. Do they taste of chicken or pork? Seriously.

Never tried guinea pig yet but this recipe looks tasty......They taste of rabbit and have less fat and more protein than chicken, pork or red meat.

Fried Guinea Pig (Ayacucho-style)
CUY CHAQTADO

1 guinea pig, de-haired, gutted, and cleaned
1/2 c. flour
1/4 - 1/2 t. ground cumin
salt and black pepper to taste
1/2 c. oil
Pat dry the skin of the guinea pig and rub in the cumin, salt, and pepper. Preheat oil. Dust the carcass with the flour and place it on its back in the oil, turning to cook both sides. Alternately, the guinea pig can be cut and fried in quarters.
Serve with boiled potato or boiled manioc root, and a salad of cut tomatoes and slivered onions bathed in lime juice and a bit of salt. Have cold beer on hand.

It's called cuy. Supposedly, it tastes like chicken or rabbit, maybe, if you've had rabbit. I read that rabbit is a good substitute and you should cook cuy like rabbit.

But don't eat guinea pigs unless they've been raised to be eaten--you'll probably get some nasty piggie diseases if you just get one from the pet store and eat it.

And BTW, this ? might have gone over better in the cooking section.

My in-laws took a vacation to Peru not too long ago and they had it there. They said it tastes kind of like a cross between game bird and rabbit.

I'm not sure I'd want to try it. 1). I've owned a couple of gp's before and I may feel weird about it and 2). I don't like game bird.

I think it would taste like a Coushan-de-lait. Roasted suckling pig. Tender!

Tastes more like rabbit, and if you flay them, then put on the BBQ or you stuff'em with onion, chives, garlic, pput them on a spit and tied them shut. UmmmmmmmmmmTasty. Don't feel bad about the question, most of these people would starve without the local Tesco. Because to kill your food to eat is well as one answerer put...eeewwww. F^&kin helll, if you were hungry enough you would eat it.

I just watched a show last night where they were eating guinea pigs. I think that they were in Vietnam or something. Just because it is an American taboo does not mean that these animals are not delicacies elsewhere in the world. However, personally, I have not tried it.
