My friend's house burned down yesterday (the bedrooms survived) and all of the clothing she and her daughters were able to save smell like smoke. I tried washing them but the smell hasn't really gone away. Is there any way to get it out?

You could try steaming them.

Sorry about the fire! Anyway, wash them again using Tide Liquid (I swear, Tide takes out EVERYTHING!) and adding just a touch of bleach, like 1/4 cup. It won't ruin the colors, but should help with the smell.

I got fire smoke on my clothes once. It took two washings with scented fabric softener to get rid of the smell.

I hope everything turns out OK for your friends!

Oxi-clean. We had a house burn down, too, and that did wonders. You only need up to half a cup per load.

sorry about the fire!
Try febreeze spray, i know it works on cigerette smoke really well, it might work on fire smoke too. Also try hanging them outside in the fresh air for ages.. thats the best i can think of!

Take them to the dry cleaners. If she had insurance, that is something they should cover.(Ours does, we have Progressive).

Otherwise the only thing you can do is wash them over and over.
Good luck to you and your neighbors.

How sad for your friend-- but to answer your question, please try washing the clothes adding Lysol to the washing machine.
