And are some of you actually avoiding asking questions because that would cost you points? What exactly is the significance of this pseudo-monetary system to you (not to Yahoo!...I know precisely what it means to them)?
Disclaimer: I am NOT addressing this question to the many members of YA who mainly or exclusively answer questions and rarely or never ask them but who don't give a hoot for the points.
Disclaimer #2: Also, it is NOT my intent to be critical or judgemental here in any way, shape or form. I am just curious and don't understand this phenomenon. I am confessing my own ignorance here.

Dollface: Don't tease. WHY will I understand when I'm a 3. Do I get initiated into some secret society that is about to take over the world? Please confess the truth. Pretty please?

[ЭΩ∞]: Is that bottled stuff of which you speak marketable? Or is that lacking in intrinsic value too? And I just noticed, you're a "3." Is that like being an "alpha" or "beta" in Huxley's "Brave New World?" I'm told I will understand the mysterious enigma of the points when I become a "3." I'm nearly there. I can hardly wait. All shall be revealed. But with the enigmatic mystery gone what will there be left in life to look forward to? Anticipation is really all there is.

chslaw: But if you are not a "point collector" (read "collecting points for the sake of collecting points") this discussion is not aimed at you. The discussion for you is here:

Dragon is pointzzzzzzzz obsessed right now because she is SO FREAKING CLOSE to being level 5 where she can answer unlimited questions. After that, she will not be so worried about points anymore. She just hates seeing the "You have reached your limit for answers" screen.

To some folks the Yahoo Marketing Team might sound like a bunch of Yodeling oracles, but we know that they, in fact, are the most astute observers of the pitiful underlying human competitive condition. To many here, packing meaningless Y!A points is like signing their names to the highest score achievable on a Video Game. It's the cheap thrill of the socially underprivileged / ignored – the pot of gold at the end of a pathetic, powerless and wasted journey. It’s the faceless fan’s virtual bragging ticket out of an otherwise unrewarding and lackluster existence. Let the ratpack pack to their hearts’ desire – in the end, it’s all but “bottled farts” anyway. :-)
Marko F - Unfortunately Yahoo has already marketed "the bottled stuff", so I'm afraid we must dream of something new, but hopefully just as wonderful.
BTW - When I got to level 3 (and despite all my futile attempts at resistance and wanting to remain at level 2) the Borg-like Oracles offered me a free honorary badge of the ancient order of the Knights Templar (curiously enough still extant), which I promptly and anomalously refused. ...To you, on the other hand, I am reckoning they might offer an original (and stolen I might add) Picasso painting - WHATEVER YOU DO, PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT IT MY FRIEND. They might even say: "Resistance is Futile", but run my friend - run as fast as you can. LOL

Yes at level 3 you become an Sublime Entered Apprentice. However at level 6 you enter the black lodge and become a Brazen Serpent of the Royal Kadosh Secret.

I don't ask questions anymore, because of all the violations. There are loads of questions I would ask,and would like to know the answer to.People can be so nasty with their answers, and sarcastic.I just wanted to get on the first page of the leaderboard.I don't care if I am at the bottom of the board.I thoroughly enjoy answering questions.I like helping people, and having a laugh too.

Most of the questions I have I can answer myself, so I won't often ask a question in this forum. If you see my profile, I've asked less than 20 questions but have answered closed to 2800 questions. For me, it is just a hobby or a chance to express myself. It's easier than maintaining a blog and has less drama.

ummmm.... i don't give a hoot about points but i wanted to answer this question to give my opinion....
i am all of the time reading answers that people say something about the '2 points' and i wonder the same thing as you asked in your question
i think they are just 'pack rats' as you say....collectors of nothing... they somehow have it in their head that it makes them superior in yahoo land that they have more points than other people. they should be pitied.....and perhaps, they should clean out their junk drawer, because i bet its piled with useless crap.
=))

I don't care about the points, it's about sharing knowledge in some of the categories.
