and he says he wants to bring our troops home as bad as anyone else...but with a victory. My question is: How will we know when we have achieved victory? Victory over what?..who?...

He had to admit it, he was starting to look simple by continuing to deny it. There's been no real change, just a switch in rhetoric to try to shore up the Republican vote for November. If he weren't so transparent it would be funny, however, it's just sad. Such a big deal was made of giving the Iraqi's a timeline for getting their government in order. The truth is that there is no motivation for them to do so by the end of that timeline. No consequences if they do not come through, none whatsoever - some motivation huh? When the people elect a Democratic President in 2008 they will be left with a mess the size of Vietnam, and they can thank Bush and his Administration for that.

I doubt that our troops will be coming home while HE'S still in office. There is never any victory when there is war. If a war is actually "won" what is the prize? I'm sure the families and friends of the fallen and injured would disagree with the word "victory".

I agree with the, The Black Gunman, 100%. Some of you people need to look in your history books and see what devastation really was. Victory will be achieved when the Irag government is able to function and control the terrorist with their own troops.

First they need to establish real goals, not the false ones about promoting democracy. That was never part of the mix no matter what song they were singing. Then the leadership needs to be changed in this country to protect democracy, Then we can start talkin' victory.

Realistically, the only victory we Americans can clam is that we destroyed a sovereign nation and left it in shambles. God Bless America

The Black Gunman - you will be my vote for best answer! Freedom isn't free folks. We lost 3,000 American lives because of the terrorists now fighting our troops and the Iraqis. It isn't a civil war - it is still a war for freedom from tyranny, a war for independence, a war for liberty. I know these are lofty concepts for you libs to grasp - but what are we worth if not for these! We lost over 20,000 troops in 39 days in the Pacific - need a reminder of what our country SHOULD be about - go see Flags of Our Fathers. The greatest generation got it - FDR and Truman got it - and fought hard to preserve it. It's too bad that the younger generations don't get it. It is destroying the fabric of our country.

Why would he need to admit to HEAVY losses in Iraq? One of our soldiers, is a HEAVY loss to me. You see, HEAVY is a matter of perception. If ONE soldier is a HEAVY loss to we Republicans, what is a HEAVY loss to you communislamic fascists? Here you go again, asking the same questions. It has been pointed out to you left wing fascists, time and again, that when the Iraqi government is able to function and protect itself, without our assistance is when we will leave. That is what our president has said many, many times.

Bush has lost control of the Situation. Bush should be Impeached and judged at a Federal Court for sending young un experienced soldiers to fight a battle they don't belong with the solely interest of oil in that region.

I remember when heavy losses meant there were 3000 civilians lost in one day. I remember when heavy losses meant 6,000 troops were killed a month on an Asian peninsula. I remember when heavy losses meant 30,000 troops were lost in a week in Normandy. I remember when Americans realized freedom cost us dearly and were willing to pay for it.

Victory will be achieved when the Iraqis are willing to do for their freedom what we do for ours. Fight for it.

The war on terrorism is like the war on drugs. It is real, yet intangible. Your question on the definition of victory is great; it can all be defined as necessary.
