Warts are caused by a virus, and as such are infectious. However, you may have some natural immunity. Plus if your skin is intact, then the chance of getting them is small. Don't touch his wart if your hands have been in warm water for any length of time, as this can possibly increase the chance of spread, as when your hands go wrinkly, tiny cuts can be more susceptible to viral transmission.
Get your b/f to have his wart treated, either by an over the counter preparation, or his family doctor might be able to freeze the wart off.
At the end of the day, warts are not a danger on your fingers, and are really just unsightly. If you catch them, it really isn't the end of the world!

A wart is caused by a virus but they are not highly contagious. Treatment is very simple so he should treat those or have a dermatologist do it. Some folks think increasing vitamin A will help prevent recurring warts but I personally have no proof of that working.

Doctors can freeze them or burn them off. I have had success getting rid of warts using Castor oil on them. Just rub the oil on them several times a day and they disappear over a fairly short time weeks. No pain no scars, no kidding. My son used the oil on a planar wart on his foot, and it went away. I do not know why it works but it does.

The kind of wart your boyfriend has is not contagious. I know because I used to have that kind on my head - and if it was contagious, all of the people I know would have warts.
He can go to the dermatologist to get it removed.

Some warts are viral and some aren't. Ask him how long he's had it. You have to ask to find out. If he only has one and he's had it for years it's probably fine. Hold the other hand if you're uncomfortabe.
