if i understood the question correctly, -5, the little two above means times another 5, so you'll have -25-3, which will be equal to -28....if you need to multiply the -25 by -3, then you get +75 like the previous person answered..

you don't multiply by another -5 since the 5 is not in parentheses the minus applies only to one of the 5's

It's not totally clear what you mean here.

If you mean -5^2 - 3, the answer would be -28. That's because the order of operations says you'd first take 5^2 (which is 25), then make that negative (so you'd have -25), and finally subtract 3 (giving -28).

If there are parentheses, like (-5)^2 - 3, it would be 22. That's because you'd take negative 5 squared (which is -5 times -5, or positive 25), and then subtract 3 (giving 22).

You mean, -5 squared x -3
-5 squared is 25
25 x -3= -75

"little two above 5" may be cute , but a student doing homework should be able to ask the question more precisely.

you mean -5^2-3... which is different than the first answerer....
-5(-5)= 25.... then minus 3 so 22
