That's completely individual - some women get excruciating pain, some none at all. Those who do get cramps often report that it becomes better after having a child. For some people, it also helps to be on the pill (didn't help me, though).
Personally, I get very bad cramps and have to take pain killers every three hours or so for 2-3 days in order to function at all. If I don't, or if I wait too long after the first twinges before taking ibuprofen, I can neither sit nor stand up straight. But I have friends who don't feel a thing or, at most, just some mild discomfort.
So, there's no predicting what your experience will be. If you do end up being one of those women with cramps, try ibuprofen as soon as you feel the cramps coming on and a heating pad on the lower part of your stomach. Some very light exercise, like yoga, can also be helpful sometimes.

It varies. During good cycles when your hormones are fairly balanced and you're living healthy, you might not have cramps at all and may hardly notice your period. During bad cycles when your hormones are running amok, the cramps can have you moaning on your knees. Those times are generally marked by a constant discomfort, centered in your abdomen, with sharp twinges deep in your pelvis that come and go. There are many effective remedies that can ease the pain, however, including exercise and ibuprofen.
It's different for everyone.

I can tell you right now. Have you ever been ice cold water before? well if you have you probably felt like tons of knives were stabbing your body. Cramps are 2 times worse than that. sometimes they are so bad that you can hardly get to the midol in time.

it feels like you have to pee really bad all the time. and then when you actually do go to pee you realize you dont have to. but besides that its sort of like a tight squeezing. hard to explain. if its really bad talk to your doctor, you might be able to go on birth control, that helped my cramps a lot!

It's like someone is punching you in the stomach every ten minutes while you simultaneously bleed. Very pleasant.

Take a knife and stick in your side and twist. Keep twisting. Don't stop. Keep doing that for three days at least. Good luck.
