Depends on the type of pneumonia it is. With most pneumonias antibiotics won't work..but with infectious pneumonia you will need an antibiotic. You should also use Mucinex to help bring up the phlem and help you to have "productive coughs", and often the doctor will also prescribe Ibutoral inhaler (or the like) to help open up your air passages - especially if you have bronchial pneumonia which I personally just got over. Took two weeks.
You need lots of rest - plenty of fluids and if on antibiotics it's important to take them as prescribed and finish the bottle.
It's not real dangerous (normally)...again there are many types and degrees of pneumonia...talk to your doctor that you went to see about any long term danger. Most likely though, if you take care of it and yourself there won't be any long time effects.
Take care.

Pneumonia is an infection in the lungs. In the usual cough, doctors listen to our lungs and find it clear. However, in case of pneumonia, doctor hears rales brought about by the phlegm that the patient have.
It is usually treated with antibiotic. Patients should take the medication depending on how many days the antibiotic is to be taken.
In severe cases, medications have to be given through the vein or what we call intravenous administration.
At risk are the very young & the very old. It is important that elderly, those 65 years and above should receive the pneumococcal vaccine once in 5 years for protection.

You know tuberculosis and bronchitis ?Its the cousin of Pneumonia. Im sure your doctor gave you a prescription for that. It's so serious that you dont have to miss a single medicine or any medication that the doctor gave you. You must take the medicine on time and remember not to miss any and complete the dosage and the number of medicine that the doctor gave you. If you dont take it seriously the virus in your lungs will get use to your medicine and they will still survive and multiply. It means the doctor will give you another medicine higher than before. So you better take your medicine seriously. Take vitamin C twice a day for now. Eat plenty of citrus fruits like oranges. Drink lots of fluids pls. especially fruit juices like lemonade, mango juices, cranberries, pineapple juice, and lots of water. Have plenty of rest. That's a communicable disease so you have to seperate your plate and utensils that your using you dont want to spread that to your family. NO BEER during medication.

Yes, and if you do not get rest, stay warm, drink fluids and try to eat for your strength you can become hospitalized. Hopefully the doctor put you on antibiotics, so be sure to take all them. People do actually die from it, but it is usually very young children and the elderly. But, still it is serious to have it even if you are young and healthy. It can take up to 6 weeks to recover from. Take care of yourself.

There are two types of pneumonia, viral and bacterial, unless it is bacterial antibiotics are not prescribed. I am guessing you did not get antibiotics and it is viral. Bed rest, plenty of fluids, cough syrup and a humid environment will work best.

Just a tip. next time you got to the Doctor ask him or her these questions while you are there paying them. Don't wait to get home and ask people who might not have as much experience as your doctor
