Bobby, I have $20. We need a new front lock to prevent burglars from coming in. It costs $15. But, I also need to buy groceries for you and your father. I'll spend $15 on the lock, $3 on food for me, and $2 on food for you and your father.
If there were no burglars, then we could spend the entire $20 on groceries.
