I don't think women are doing this - I mean, have you seen how many fat women are walking around in lo-rise jeans with all the flubber blubber hanging out? That doesn't impress anyone. You are right though about the makeup - it doesn't work on most women even though they all insist on using it. And my God, those fingernails - are those done to impress people? They are so ugly and a woman can't open a car door without breaking a nail, spending a half day to find someone to fix it, and then complaining about for 2 hours on the cell phone.

My personal experience is that people treat me as if I were important when I do the make-up, hair and outfit thing. Wehn I dress very casually, people look right through me.

I joke about painting my eyelids blue in order to get respect. Not like Mimi on the Drew Cary show, I promise, but for some reason people are generally more impresses with pretty than they are with average looks. Stupid, but true.

I don't know why women do that - personally I'm not out to impress anyone, I like to look good for myself as I feel more confident when I look good - but for everyone else out there I don't care if they like me and what I'm wearing or not because as long as I'm happy with me that's all that really matters

I think we do it because the media has too much influence on our lives. We have been taught that looks is more important than intelligence and doing good in the world. Personally, I am tired of it and I would rather be smart than beautiful.

They need to develop sufficent self-esteem so that they are not dependent on the opinions or reactions of others to feel good about themselves. The best way to do this is to do good in the world. Focusing on appearance is the easy way out.

I don't. I wear what I want to and what I'm comfortable with. As long as I think I look good (and I'm not talking about a 300lb woman wearing a string bikini), then I am okay with it. Fashion critics and self imposed fashion mavens be damned.

Good question. It's in our genes. For centuries we have been using lipstick and body perfumes to attract the opposite sex for mating. Think of Cleopatra. It's all about finding the most attractive mate, and producing the best looking offspring.

Besides that...I don't know about the rest of you...but I enjoy looking smoking hot when I get all done up. It's fun.

We? What do you have a french mouse in your pocket?

Who is this We?

Why YOU do it? I have no idea. I don't think highly enough of most people to try and impress them.

We like the attention. We want to feel good about ourselves, and there's nothing wrong with that.

although, I'd like to be more confident when I'm naked, then when I'm dressed. I'm working on it (grin).
