I think that respect has a lot to do with acceptance and tolerance (which are sort of the same thing). Even if you don't like someone for whatever reason (they're gay, they aren't your race, they looked at you funny, they talk about you behind your back(, you can still accept that they are what they are and there is nothing that you can do to change it. Then you can also tolerate their differences or indifferences with you. Having actual respect for someone is different (to me) than being respectful. Being respectful to others is a sign of being an adult and shows that you have class (or others may say "home training"). Showing respect can be things from a handshake when you meet, making genuine eye contact, holding doors, saying sir or ma'am, or please and thank you.

Now, I feel that you can show respect for people but have no real respect for a person. If you don't like them, you don't like them. I wouldn't try to change your views on a person and I don't expect you to change your views on a person for someone else's sake. Just being kind is respect enough for me.

We were out to dinner and the waitress was very kind, respectful, and when she made a mistake, she fixed it immediately... no excuses. Was very sincere when she told us to have a nice night. We only spent $80 on dinner, but we left her a $25 tip. A different time we had a server who seemed to not care, never kept our drinks filled, didn't tell us to have a nice night, and wasn't really paying attention to us. That's disrespectful to me. Again, we spent about $80 on dinner, she got $5 from us. So, respect in everyday things like your job has it's benefits.... you may not be a server, but it's the same concept.

I hope that this helps! :-)

You can't force yourself to accept others. In your own way, you have to realise that everyone has their own point of views, without trying to make them see your way of thinking as the one and absolute truth. Respecting means understanding their background and accepting them for who they are, despite their flaws and characteristics.

By answering all their questions, no matter how dumb.

Holy Moly, Banana Fana!! What are you so upset about? Just because you can't find a boyfriend, don't take it out on everybody.

Try a little empathy. Put yourself in their shoes. How would you wish to be treated?
