Dam? To build one, large area for the project is needed. What will happen ti the ecosystem when building the dams? Dams is not one of the best solution to tackle the water crisis but yeah it can be done...Just think about the consequences or impact to the social, values and the environment

I don't think people think enough about them prior to building them. Country A needs water, so they build a dam, great, but countries B, C and D all use that water too, and now it is dammed, so they have a drought and can't produce crops, so they have a depression and they need world aid, etc. Water is a huge problem in most countries. Also, people don't think about the consequences of damming in their own countries. Take the Aswan dam for instance. It is great that there is a damn there, but now the Nile doesn't flood, so that land doesn't get the silt deposits, so the ground is less fertile. There is also this huge epidemic of Schistosoma because the water slugs that eat the bacteria are usually carried in the river, but now they are all in the dam, so they are not in the river, and as a result the people of the region have a sever bacterial infection. I just don't think people think enough. It sounds like a great idea to build a dam because of hydroelectric power and a water source, but they never think about the cons to building dams.

Dams like water dams? I think they are neat and create a home for wildlife, but cause problems for humans because of flooding.

Is that what you are talking about?

Dams are a good thing.

Damns are good for humans but bad for soil. Rivers are meant to overflow once in a while to replenish the nutrients in soil. With dams regulating the level of water, it doesn't happen anymore. I be;ieve in some ways, we aren't very good stewards for the earth.

I like them.

As half of my country is below sea level we need good water management. I am very happy to tell you that we have a lot of dams and dikes over here. Many towns are even named after them, like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Zaandam, Monnickendam and Werkendam.

Most dams produce electricity, but beaver dams are usually unwelcome.

Dams create reservoirs for our drinking water, showers, washers, swimming pools, toilets, car washes. We couldn't function civilized without them.
