I had this same problem quite a few months ago, I broke my pinkie toe though. I had the same frame of mind as you, not to go to the ER because there wasn't much they could do that I couldn't. My toe turned black and so did a sizable portion of the top of my foot, this was just bruising because I hit it so hard though. I really wish I had gone to the ER now though because it has healed crooked and if anything touches the top of my foot with any sort of pressure it hurts like heck! Please listen to your dad and go to the doctor, it is true that it could mess up the nerves in your hand and it will be forever painful. Good luck girlie!

You need to go to the ER! Like your Dad said there could be more damage than you are aware of. The break could be a hairline fracture or it be shattered. Go get an X-Ray and let the doctors figure it out. In the mean time, icing is good it will keep the swelling down, what ever pain reliever you need and you can do one of two things to help immoblize it.

Get some athletic tape or surgical tape, popcicle stick and put the popcicle stick on the palm side of your finger letting it extend into the middle of your palm. Tape the stick to your finger at the tip and the base of your finger and tape around your hand. This will support it and protect it. It could be possible that if you continue to move it around you could wreck it more.

Or just tape your little finger to your ringer finger, that will help too.

Good luck!

Well, they will take an exray & probably cast it to the next finger...they have better pain meds too...

If there is no major bruising, you may be able to splint it to a popsicle stick. If the break isn't lined up properly, it will heal funny. Your best bet is to go to the hospital, at least they can give you good drugs & make sure it heals straight & you can use your pinkie again!

Seriously think about going to either your local er or immediate care. If you still don't want to go get a popcicle stick and bandage tape. Tape the finger on the stick then to another finger. You really need to have it looked at though.

Go to the ER. If the bone is displaced, they may need to straighten it so it will heal right. In my case, they did have to straighten it AND they put a curved metal splint on it also. Fingers are really too important to be careless about.

Dad's right, you have to go to the ER for an Xray and get your finger properly set and splinted. If you don't it'll heal all jacked up and you don't want that.

um, not sure - look up on some DIY bone-healing tips.. I would use painkillers and ice, bandage the finger and go to the hospital. If you don't get it checked out, it could heal back in a bad way and that means - breaking it again!

Being that it is daytime make an appointment with your Family Doctor. This is cheaper or go to one of the Daytime emegency rooms. I forgot the name but these are usually cheaper choices before going to the ER which costs $500 just for walking in and waiting to be seen.

Get the x-ray done before taking any treatment,if its not possible try to align the broken parts and strap it with ring and middle fingers for support as a first aid, then consult doctor at earliest opportunity.

Being in the medical field I do suggest you go to the doctor first to determine if it is broken and second so they can properly brace/ splint it. and they can give you something for the pain.. I wouldn't go to ER its going to take hours but I would go an Orthopedic Doctor or a clinic
